A message from Marianne Hiles, MACNS President

Posted 2 days ago by Marianne Hiles

My name is Marianne Hiles and I am the new MACNS President.

On behalf of myself and the BOD, I would like to thank Pamela Moss, our immediate past president, for all her work and dedication to Maryland CNSs over the past several years. During her leadership, we achieved prescriptive authority in Maryland and actualized our new organization, the Maryland Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (MACNS) as a non-profit 501c6 organization in Maryland and a continued active affiliate of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS).

I have lived in Maryland since 2011 and have been actively involved in our affiliate since this time. I have been active in many activities and initiatives over the years, especially in achieving prescriptive authority.  I spent many hours working with our team, meeting with our lobbyist, delegates and providing oral testimony in Annapolis, in both the House and Senate, in support of our bills.  The passage of the CNS prescriptive authority bill was not only a victory for Maryland CNSs, but for the people of Maryland.

Professionally, I am a Perinatal CNS and work at Frederick Health in Frederick, Maryland.  I have been an RN for almost 33 years working mostly in the maternal-child health field.  I graduated as an Adult Health CNS in 2011 from the Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana and moved the same summer to Maryland with my husband and 7 children.  I was actually born at Holy Cross Hospital, but my parents, being born and bread New Yorkers, moved us back to NY when I was 10.  I would always say, “When I grow up, I am going to move back to Maryland”… well, here I am.

I am PASSIONATE about CNS practice and the valuable work that CNSs do. I am here for YOU to advance the mission of CNSs, especially in Maryland.  Many still face barriers in implementing prescriptive authority which the board and myself are actively working to break through.

Please know that YOU and your concerns are important to the MACNS board.  We are here to support you.

We are looking to build an affiliate that advances the work of CNS practice throughout the state of Mayland.  We need YOU to make a difference and invite you to join us as we advance the mission of CNS practice in Maryland.

Please be sure to join us as an active member…YOUR dues support the work of advancing CNS practice at the local level.  They also provide you with an $80 discount to our annual pharmacology conference in April.  Did you know that if you are also an ACTIVE member of NACNS, you receive a 20% discount on your annual MACNS dues (once verified)? If you want to take a more active role, please consider joining me and the board in an official role, we have several open MACNS board positions (see the website to apply).

Please be sure to join me and the MACNS board of directors in our mission to advance CNS practice in Maryland.

Respectfully,

~Marianne
